Article: Hole Jalleu, First Exploration.

Article published in the newsmagazine of the Belgian Union of Speleology, the Insight No 67 November 2007:

Jalleu Hole, First Exploration.

July 2007:

During a week of holiday with Françoise Minne , Jaques Petit and Michel Pauwels between Burgundy and Maas, Michael invited me to dive into a exsurgences Haute Saone, the hole Jalleu.

After a dive for Michael unblocking of a rolling mill starts close to the bottom of a submerged shaft of 25 m and ending at -32, I'm off to visit the second part. According to Jean-Marc Lebel, last explorer dated at this point the gallery back to -19 in diaclase which seems more impenetrable.

After passing the mill really needs to be negotiated, the strong current and the three squeezes adding a little spice to his crossing, I finished the back and the second désob well with my own thread. Same findings as Jean-Marc Lebel: at -19, beautiful blades erosions oxidized the well is closed in its upper part (pots erosion) and joints pinching but where no current is felt.

I back down on this side, surprise, pinch quickly becomes a wall and a ceiling of less tilted. Seeing that it will be time to turn back, I let it flow straight to reach the entrance to the mill at -32. I arrive on the embankment of clay Lebel described. He presents here a form of "gutter" which rises gently and I feel much of a current address. I began this "gutter" on ten meters and reaches the top of a dune. I always face the current and stop what appears to be an early gallery, I see only the dark distance ... I just do, without knowing it and without seeking my "raw".

Michel is delighted on hearing my story, calling the explosion is there, the day after we return. Of benchmarking, verification of the existence of this gallery and place over 65 m to 30 m underwater.

September 2007:

Here we go again with Michael, armed with an array of cylinders, determined and very motivated. We will conduct 3 dives each, down 220 meters of wire, and Topographia 180 m at an average depth of 30 m. Dives become lengthy, especially because of the long decompression stops that require depth. It always comes down, and counting! Ongoing exploration.

Thanks to my three companions that famous week of July where I discovered the joy of the first and the excitement of exploration.
